What we cover

Key Tax Developments
Super & Retirement: 2024 The Year Ahead
Are Electric Cars Still Causing Sparks?
2024 Practice In Focus

We work through some of the latest tax developments that will impact on your client base:

Financial advice fees – deductible or not? We look at the ATO's new determination on whether individuals can claim a deduction for financial advice fees. Because this is an issue that can impact on a range of clients, we will work through what has and hasn't changed from the ATO's previous guidance in this area.

GST treatment on property sales - We explore the recent AAT decisions dealing with the tax and GST treatment of property sales. The decisions have left some practitioners confused, so we walk you through the key issues and explain what can make the difference to the tax outcome.

What came out of the mini-budget? We take a quick look at some of the tax-related measures announced in the Federal Government's recent mini-Budget - proposed changes to the foreign resident capital gains withholding rules and the treatment of GIC and SIC amounts can impact on a number of clients.

Tax Director, Knowledge Shop

There is always a lot of noise in superannuation, retirement and advice; legislative change, policy initiatives, interpretations. This session delivers a definitive position on where previous reforms landed and what will be of importance to your clients in 2024.

Amongst that are the likely inflation led changes to the contribution caps and the transfer balance cap for FY 2025. We’ll flag the planning issues of importance.

Plus, we’ll wrap up with some of the common problem areas we are seeing on the member help desk – always a great insight into the pain points at the coal face of compliance and advice.

With Jason Hurst
Technical Superannuation Adviser, Knowledge Shop

In this timely update we explore the most pertinent issues as we approach the end of the FBT year.

Electric cars are hot right now and the lure of the FBT exemption for employers is already causing a stir. We walk you through the most common questions that arise when clients seek to apply this exemption and the issues that can lead to an unexpected and unfavourable FBT outcome.

We also look at the recent changes to the FBT record keeping rules that allow employers to rely on alternative records to finalise their FBT returns effective from the 2025 FBT year onwards and what this means for clients in practice.

Plus, a ‘refresher’ on some key FBT issues to help you navigate the end of the FBT year.

Practice Management specialist Greg Hayes joins us for this special session to set your firm’s priorities for 2024.

As the year gets underway, it easy to get into the trap of doing the urgent as a priority over the important, and sometimes the important is overlooked.

This session focuses on your highest priority – your strategic direction and how that dictates the way you should manage your practice. We will also touch on some of the common risks practices face in 2024.
