What we cover
The ATO has continued to release updates on key tax issues over the last couple of months. In this session we bring you up to date with the latest developments, including finalised guidance on how the ATO is likely to apply the anti-avoidance rules in Part IVA to clients who operate a personal services business through a company or trust. We look at arrangements the ATO considers to be lower-risk and higher-risk as well as some key practical issues to consider when dealing with clients in this area.
The ATO has also issued a specific warning around arrangements between related parties in connection with property development projects. We look at the types of arrangements being targeted by the ATO and the key tax issues being raised.
As the end of another FBT year draws closer, we take this opportunity to dive into some key FBT problem areas, focusing on issues that arise when dealing with cars and other motor vehicles.
We look at some of the most common issues that arise when employers are providing electric cars to employees and seeking to access the generous FBT exemption. We also look at what needs to be done to ensure that commercial vehicles made available to employees qualify for a full FBT exemption and key risks that need to be managed.
For vehicles which don't qualify for an FBT exemption we explore the key practical issues that need to be considered when calculating the taxable value of a motor vehicle and how to deal with employee contributions correctly.
